Astragalus: The vitalising root of traditional Chinese medicineAstragalus
, also known as tragacanth or buckthorn, is one of the 10 most important plants in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) . The roots in particular have been used traditionally for centuries.Astragalus originally comes from the Chinese border region with Mongolia. But the plant family is well known here: Like the pea, Astragalus belongs to the legume family. The herbaceous plant comprises around 2000 different species. The most important Astragalus species we use is called Astragalus membranaceus. Astragalus can be recognised visually by its multi-coloured, paired butterfly flowers, of which only the valuable root tuber is used here. It is dried after harvesting and then ground into powder in a gentle process. The resulting raw food product is suitable both as an ingredient in smoothies and for sprinkling into dishes. The flavour is reminiscent of asparagus tips or nut powder.
Our astragalus root powder comes from organic cultivation and is 100% natural.
