The crucial role of magnesium for your health
Magnesium is essential for numerous bodily functions and must be obtained from food as our body is unable to produce it itself.
It is often wrongly assumed that additional magnesium intake is not necessary, especially if no magnesium deficiency is detected in blood work. However, the key to a complete understanding of magnesium status is to recognise that only about 1% of magnesium circulates in the blood serum. The crucial 95% is found in the cells. Therefore, a sufficient magnesium level in the blood serum can be deceptive and is not a reliable guarantee of sufficient cell supply. It therefore makes no sense to determine the magnesium level in the blood!
The importance of magnesium
Magnesium is much more than just a mineral - it is an essential building block for numerous vital functions in the body.
This is because magnesium supports
- the electrolyte balance
- the energy metabolism
- the nervous system
- muscle function
- protein synthesis
- mental function
- the maintenance of normal bones & teeth
- the reduction of tiredness and fatigue
- cell division

The special features of our high-dose magnesium capsules
Our magnesium capsules offer you a unique 8-fold complex of different forms of magnesium to ensure that your body is optimally supplied with this essential mineral. Each daily dose (2 capsules) provides you with a full 400 mg of elemental magnesium.
Our high-dose magnesium capsules provide a unique 8-fold complex of different forms of magnesium, including magnesium oxide, magnesium carbonate, magnesium bisglycinate, magnesium citrate and others. A total of 1200 mg of magnesium FORMS are contained in 2 capsules, including various compounds such as magnesium oxide and magnesium carbonate.
It is important to note that magnesium OXIDE or magnesium CARBONATE are not pure/elemental magnesium sources, but magnesium compounds. This means that oxide or carbonate is still attached to the crystal structure of these compounds, which does not count as pure magnesium and does not increase the magnesium level in the same way.
Many suppliers advertise their products with claims such as "400 mg magnesium oxide per 2 capsules", which could give the impression that the consumer is taking in 400 mg of pure magnesium. In reality, however, magnesium oxide only contains a small amount of pure/elemental magnesium, which replenishes the magnesium stores. In order to offer you as a consumer transparency, we show the pure/elemental magnesium content in our table. With 2 capsules you actually take in 400 mg of PURE magnesium.
Recognise, understand, act: Magnesium deficiency and its effects on health
The causes of a magnesium deficiency can be varied and range from an unbalanced or unbalanced diet to persistent diarrhoea, food intolerances and functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. Increased alcohol consumption, chronic inflammatory bowel disease and hyperthyroidism can also lead to an imbalance in the magnesium balance.
Recognising a magnesium deficiency is crucial, as a subtle deficiency can have a significant impact on health. Possible symptoms of a magnesium deficiency can include headaches, fatigue, muscle cramps and/or muscle twitching and digestive problems. To correct a magnesium deficiency, it is important to identify the underlying causes and address them if necessary. This can be done through a conscious diet that includes magnesium-rich foods or, if necessary, by taking magnesium supplements. Recognising and correcting a magnesium deficiency in good time helps to maintain the balance of magnesium and prevent possible long-term health problems.

You can recognise a magnesium deficiency by these symptoms
- Headaches
- Tiredness
- Muscle cramps and/or muscle twitching
- Digestive problems
- Nervousness
- Palpitations
- Inner restlessness and/or depressive moods
- Decreased performance
How magnesium positively influences sleep and psyche
Magnesium plays a central role in neuronal metabolic processes and is significantly involved in the production of serotonin, the happiness hormone. A balanced magnesium intake effectively supports mental function.
Magnesium is also a key player in promoting relaxation and calmness in the body. The mineral enhances the effect of GABA, a neurotransmitter-inhibiting messenger substance that inhibits the neuronal transmission of stimuli and puts the body into a state of calm. This slowing down of the transmission of stimuli helps to relax muscles and nerves, which can make it easier to fall asleep.
An inadequate supply of magnesium can lead to overactivity of the nerve cells, which can result in increased irritability. Therefore, adequate magnesium intake is crucial to effectively regulate nerve activity and thus contribute to overall mental and physical balance.
How much magnesium should I take per day?
The recommended daily intake of magnesium varies depending on age, gender and lifestyle. For adults, the general recommendation is around 300 to 400 mg per day. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers in particular should ensure that they have a sufficient intake. Magnesium is particularly important during pregnancy as it is involved in various vital processes in the body. Magnesium not only supports energy metabolism and muscle function, but is also crucial for electrolyte balance and the function of the nervous system. In addition, magnesium helps to reduce tiredness and fatigue, which is particularly important during pregnancy when the body is exposed to increased demands.
It is advisable to divide the daily amount of magnesium into two portions per day, as studies indicate that no more than 200 mg of pure magnesium per intake can be absorbed by the body. To ensure optimal absorption, doses above 200 mg should be taken separately. Some people prefer to take it with meals to prevent possible laxative effects.
It is important to note that individual needs may vary. Athletes, people under severe stress or with regular alcohol consumption may have a higher magnesium requirement.
Magnesium for sore muscles: the right support for sports enthusiasts
Magnesium is an indispensable ally for sports enthusiasts, as it plays a key role in normal energy metabolism and muscle function. This essential role makes magnesium a valuable support, especially when it comes to preventing muscle soreness and promoting recovery after intensive training.
Foods that are rich in magnesium
Magnesium is found in a wide variety of foods and a balanced diet is crucial to ensure sufficient magnesium intake. However, some foods are particularly good sources of magnesium. Bananas are delicious and widely recognised as one of the best-known sources of magnesium. In addition to their sweet flavour, bananas also provide around 27 mg of magnesium per medium-sized fruit (100 g). This fruit is perfect as a snack and can be easily integrated into muesli, yoghurt or smoothies.
Other magnesium-rich foods include nuts and seeds, especially almonds (268 mg magnesium per 100 g) and sunflower seeds (325 mg magnesium per 100 g). Dark leafy vegetables such as spinach (79 mg magnesium per 100 g) and Swiss chard (81 mg magnesium per 100 g) are also excellent sources of magnesium. If you do not get enough magnesium from your diet, we recommend our Magnesium 8-fold Complex capsules with 8 different forms of magnesium for improved absorption.
Utilising synergy effects - taking magnesium and vitamin D3
The synergy between magnesium and vitamin D3 is of crucial importance for various aspects of health. Both nutrients interact in a complex way in the body and influence each other positively. Magnesium plays a crucial role in the absorption and activation of vitamin D3 in the body. The synthesis of active vitamin D3, also known as calcitriol, takes place mainly in the kidneys. This process requires the involvement of magnesium.
Without sufficient magnesium in the body, the conversion of vitamin D3 into its active form can be impaired. This means that even with sufficient vitamin D intake, a magnesium deficiency can hinder the efficient utilisation of vitamin D3.
In addition, magnesium supports the optimal function of enzymes involved in the activation of vitamin D. Therefore, adequate magnesium intake is important to maximise the positive effects of vitamin D3 on bone health, the immune system and other bodily functions.

Questions and answers
Why does the label say a total of 400 mg of elemental magnesium when the forms of magnesium contained make up 1200 mg?
A total of 1200 mg of magnesium FORMS are contained in 2 capsules. For example, 2 capsules contain 400 mg magnesium oxide and 300 mg magnesium carbonate etc.
However, it should be noted that magnesium OXIDE or magnesium CARBONATE is NOT pure/elemental magnesium, but a magnesium compound! This means that in the crystal structure of these magnesium compounds, the magnesium still has oxide attached to it, e.g. in the magnesium OXIDE form, and carbonate in the magnesium CARBONATE form. The oxide or carbonate is not magnesium and does not top up your magnesium levels.
In this case, many suppliers advertise e.g. with 400 mg magnesium OXID per 2 capsules; the consumer assumes that he is taking in 400 mg magnesium. However, this is not the case, because magnesium oxide actually only contains a small amount of pure/elemental magnesium, which replenishes the magnesium stores.
In order to be transparent here and to show you as a consumer that you are actually taking in 400 mg of PURE magnesium with 2 capsules, we show the pure/elemental magnesium content in the table below.
