Product information

A millennia-old connection between humans and olive trees
Olive trees can reach an astonishing age of over 1000 years and survive in regions with low rainfall. Humans have been using the olive tree since the 4th millennium BC, making it one of the oldest known useful plants. There is much more to the trees and leaves than meets the eye. While the fruit is often consumed as olives or olive oil, the leaves of the olive tree can be processed into a highly concentrated extract or tea.
Historical and cultural aspects of olive leaf extract: a journey through time and its use in different cultures
The use of olive leaves stretches back thousands of years and is associated with numerous cultural traditions. In ancient times, not only did the ancient Greeks and Romans recognise the special properties of these leaves, but Mediterranean peoples also integrated them into their folk medicine. The famous Hildegard von Bingen used olive leaf tea to improve well-being, while in ancient Egypt pharaohs were mummified using pressed olive leaves. This method protected the mummies of the pharaohs from parasites, fungi and bacteria.
This historical context is not only fascinating due to its long tradition, but also creates a bridge to current trends and developments. At a time when the search for natural plant substances is being revitalised, olive leaf extract is experiencing a renaissance.
Quality from cultivation to extraction: our care in harvesting and extracting olive leaf extract
The leaves used for our olive leaf extract are harvested by hand just before the olive tree blossoms and extracted fresh - immediately after harvesting - using a gentle process. Through careful selection and gentle extraction, we can guarantee that the valuable ingredients of the leaf are retained.
Olive leaf extract: a natural source of powerful oleuropein
Oleuropein is a powerful antioxidant substance found in various parts of the olive tree, including the roots, bark, fruit and especially the leaves. Oleuropein plays a crucial role in the survival of the olive tree. It not only serves as a protective shield against free radicals, but also protects the tree from damage caused by insect infestation, bacteria, viruses and fungi. The high proportion of oleuropein increases the resistance of the olive tree to such an extent that it has the ability to reach a remarkable age of up to 1000 years.
Oleuropein is particularly interesting in terms of its antioxidant effect. This super antioxidant is found in olive leaves in concentrations around 3000 times higher than in olive oil. This is due to the fact that the tree bears its leaves for around 5 years and must therefore protect them particularly well against pests and fungi during this time. The extraction of oleuropein from fresh olive leaves makes it possible to make this powerful and versatile plant substance available to humans.
The oleuropein content in our olive leaf extracts varies depending on the product. In the olive leaf extract BIO FORTE 100%, the oleuropein content is standardised and amounts to a full 10%, which corresponds to a concentration of 12,000 mg per 100 ml. This standardisation ensures consistent quality and potency of the extract.
With our other variants (NATURA, PREMIUMand STANDARD), in which the leaves come from wild duck, the oleuropein content varies according to the natural conditions of the plants. In the case of wild harvesting, the leaves are mainly harvested from old trees, as these have a higher oleuropein content. The manual harvesting of olive leaves is not only environmentally friendly, but also crucial for product quality.
We do not use dry extract for our liquid olive leaf extract variants, but only the 100% pure extract produced from fresh leaves.
The different forms and concentrations of our olive leaf extracts offer a wide choice and allow you to select the olive leaf extract exactly according to your individual preferences and needs. The "PREMIUM" and "STANDARD" variants contain vegetable glycerine (obtained from coconuts), which softens the bitterness of the extract with its sweet flavour.
