Vitamin K2: The active form for healthy bones and optimal blood clotting
- Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that is very important for our blood clotting and the maintenance of normal bones.
- There are two natural forms of vitamin K: vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) and vitamin K2 (menaquinone).
- Vitamin K1 is the form that occurs naturally in plant foods.
- Vitamin K2 is the form that is produced by bacteria (e.g. intestinal bacteria).
Some symptoms that may indicate a vitamin K deficiency:
- Susceptibility to bruising
- Frequent bleeding from the nose, gums or wounds, often also in the stomach or intestines
- Diminishing bone density/fragile bones
- Poor heart and blood vessel condition
- A vitamin K deficiency can be quickly detected by a blood count
Advantages of taking K2
- Important support for the body's own blood coagulation (this protects against excessive blood loss in the event of injuries, for example)
- Maintains normal bones, as it helps to incorporate calcium into the bones
Important differences in the quality of vitamin K2
Vitamin K2 is not the same as vitamin K2, because there is synthetically produced vitamin K2 and vitamin K2 obtained through the fermentation of natural raw materials (e.g. in our case soya beans). Synthetic vitamin K2 is available in the cis-form; this is not endogenous and therefore cannot be utilised by the body.
The form of vitamin K2 obtained from natural source materials (obtained by fermenting soya beans using Bacillus subtilis cultures) is in the menaquinone 7 all-trans form. This form is considered to be of the highest quality as it guarantees optimum absorption in the body.
A quick and uncomplicated alternative to taking vitamin K2 is the oral intake of vitamin K2 oil. Our vitamin K2 is already dissolved in oil, as vitamin K2 is a fat-soluble vitamin that can only be absorbed by the body in combination with oil.
Our vitamin K2 oil already contains the active form of vitamin K, namely vitamin K2 in the menaquinone/all-trans form. This means that the vitamin K2 it contains is directly available to the body and does not have to be converted into the active form of vitamin K first.
Vitamin K2 is often recommended in combination with vitamin D3, as the two vitamins complement each other perfectly. A combination of the two products and more information on vitamin D3 can be found here: Vitamin D3/K2 1000 IU / 20 µg
