Rapid absorption: When applied externally, e.g. as a bath additive, the magnesium chloride is absorbed transdermally, i.e. through the skin.

High-quality magnesium chloride from the Zechstein Sea: The natural source for your well-being

The magnesium chloride contained in this product comes from the magnesium chloride deposits of the former Zechstein Sea, which dried up approximately 250 million years ago. The Zechstein Sea is considered the world's purest and most natural source of high-quality magnesium chloride. It is extracted in the Netherlands from a depth of 1,600 meters and is quality-controlled through continuous analysis.

Magnesium chloride is approved for external use and is applied to the skin.

Magnesium chloride is available in different forms: oil, flakes and gel

Oil:Magnesium oil feels oily, but it doesn't contain a drop of fat, as it isn't an oil in the true sense of the word. It is a maximally saturated magnesium solution, a so-called brine. Magnesium oil has a magnesium chloride content of 31% and is composed of 69% water.

Flakes:Magnesium flakes are formed when magnesium oil is heated to over 165 degrees Celsius. This changes the state of the magnesium oil from liquid to solid. Magnesium flakes contain 47% magnesium chloride and consist of 53% water. The strength of the flakes results from the strong water-binding (hygroscopic) properties of magnesium chloride. Therefore, the packaging should always be tightly closed, otherwise the flakes will revert back to magnesium oil.

Gel:Magnesium gel is made from magnesium oil, which is then treated with natural starch to achieve a gel-like consistency. It contains 31% magnesium chloride and consists of 66.2% water and 2.8% hydroxypropyl starch phosphate.

Transdermal magnesium vs. magnesium in tablet/capsule/powder form

Transdermal magnesium offers many advantages over other magnesium sources as it:

  • does not irritate the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract
  • has no laxative effect on the skin even at high doses
  • can be applied locally to the desired areas (areas with sweat glands are recommended)
  • suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women
