If you do not eat fish 1-2 times a week, you are most likely not consuming enough omega-3 fatty acids! About 70% of the German population has have an omega-3 level that is too low.
Omega-3 fatty acids cannot be produced by the human body itself and must therefore be taken in sufficiently through food or supplements. Above all the omega-3 fatty acids DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) are particularly importantsince they support and maintain very different functions in the human body.
EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) gives the following consumption recommendations for DHA- and EPA-rich algae oil from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp.:
For adults:
- DHA and EPA contribute to normalheartfunction (250 mg DHA and EPA per day).
- DHA and EPA contribute to the maintenance of normal blood pressure(3 g DHA and EPA per day).
- DHA and EPA contribute to the maintenance of normal bloodtriglyceride levels(2 g DHA and EPA per day).
- DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal blood triglyceride levels (2 g DHA per day in combination with EPA).
- DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function (250 mg DHA per day).
- DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision (250 mg DHA per day).
For nursing and pregnant women:
- Maternal intake of DHA contributes to normal brain development of the fetus and breastfed infant (200 mg DHA plus the recommended daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids, i.e., 250 mg DHA+EPA per day for adults), for a total of 450 mg DHA and 250 mg EPA per day.
- The mother's intake of DHA contributes to the normal development of the eyes of the fetus and the breastfed infant (200 mg DHA plus the recommended daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids, i.e. 250 mg DHA+EPA per day for adults), that is a total of 450 mg DHA and 250 mg EPA per day.
Depending on what the algae oil is used for, the daily consumption recommendation can be adjusted accordingly.
For comparison, we recommend 2 capsules per day as standard. This contains: 576 mg DHA and 288 mg EPA.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women can reduce the dosage to 1 capsule per day, which corresponds to 288 mg DHA and 144 mg EPA per day.
With Omega-3 most people associate fish products or other sea animals, since these are to contain particularly many Omega-3-Fettsäuren. However, very few people know that fish do not produce omega-3 by themselves either, but from a vegetable sourceso take in from algae, for example. So the original source of omega-3 is the algae itself and not the fish. Especially the microalgae we use Schizochytrium sp. contains particularly high amounts of these high-quality DHA and EPA fatty acids. This microscopically small single-celled sea water alga Schizochytrium sp. occurs naturally in mangrove forests of tropical coasts. Nowadays, the algae can be cultivated in large tanks in an environmentally friendly way to obtain the valuable algae oil in a consistently high quality.
The benefits of omega-3 from algae instead of fish:
- Sustainable cultivation of algae in huge tanks protects fish and krill stocks and the natural marine ecosystem.
- Algae oil, by being produced in closed systems, prevents the uptake of pollutants (e.g. heavy metals) as can be the case in polluted seas.
- The alga Schizochytrium sp. contains more omega-3 than fish.
- Our algae oil is iodine-free.
- Algae oil is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
- Algae oil, unlike fish, has no microplastic problem.
Bottom line: you don't have to rely on fish to meet your omega-3 needs. Even for fish eaters, supplementation with algae oil can be quite useful.

What should I take algae oil for?
Omega-3 fatty acids are so-called polyunsaturated fatty acids. They belong to the essential fatty acids. Humans need them to survive and the body cannot produce them itself. In Germany, about 70 percent of the population has an omega-3 level that is too low. Fatty cold-water fish, which mainly contains the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), is rarely found on menus in this country. Vegetable oils, on the other hand, which mainly supply linolenic acid (ALA), are only suitable to a limited extent for an adequate omega-3 supply.
DHA contributes above all to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision (from a daily intake of 250 mg).
EPA and DHA contribute to normal heart function (from a daily intake of 250 mg each).
Why algae oil instead of fish oil or krill oil?
Most users associate omega-3 fatty acids with fish or krill oil products because they are advertised as having a high omega-3 content. Few realize that these marine animals absorb the omega-3 fatty acids by eating algae. So why kill these animals and not just consume the algae directly? Omega-3 rich algae such as the microalgae Schizochytrium sp. are the ideal source of the high quality omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA.
The microscopic single-celled marine algae Schizochytrium sp. occurs naturally in mangrove forests of tropical coasts. Alternatively, the alga can be cultivated in large tanks in an environmentally friendly way to obtain the valuable algae oil in consistently high quality. Krill and fish stocks can thus be sustainably conserved and the "marine ecosystem" remains unaffected. Due to the cultivation in tanks, the algae additionally remain free of pollutants. Algae oil is purely vegetable and therefore equally suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
How is the algae oil produced?
Our algae oil is extracted from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp. This microalgae is naturally very rich in the omega-3 fatty nutrients DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). Schizochytrium sp. is cultivated in sterile fermentation tanks. After a cooling and resting phase, physical separation is carried out by a 3-phase centrifugal process. The algae oil is produced without the use of chemical solvents and with the exclusion of oxygen and light.
Where is the algae oil produced?
Our algae oil is processed and bottled in our own multi-certified (HACCP, ISO9001, BIO, IFS etc.) production facility located in Germany.
Is the algae oil certified organic?
Currently, omega-3 algae oil cannot be certified organic, because fermentation takes place in the manufacturing process, among other things. (Partially) fermented products are currently not bio-certifiable.
Is the algae oil laboratory tested for heavy metals, microbiology, DHA-EPA content, TOTOX value, etc.?
Of course, all of our products are laboratory tested. Each batch is analyzed prior to marketing and we will be happy to send you a copy of the analysis upon request. Either to the currently sold batch or to your received batch (please indicate the best before date on the bottle).
Where does the raw material for the algae oil, i.e. the microalgae Schizochytrium sp. come from?
The raw material for the microalgae, i.e. Schizochytrium sp. algae, comes from the USA.
Does the algae oil contain iodine?
Our algae oil is practically iodine-free. The Schizochytrium sp. alga does not belong to the algae that accumulate iodine from the environment, e.g. the sea. Since our algae are not taken from the sea, but cultivated in sterile fermentation tanks, we have full control over the environment in which the algae grow. Our 100 ml bottle of algae oil (94 g) contains less than 0.13 mg (13 µg) of iodine on the whole bottle. So on the maximum daily portion of 2.5 ml, there is almost no iodine left. The product is considered JODE FREE.
Does the algae oil contain phytoestrogens?
No, the strain Schizochytrium does not contain phytoestrogens and they are not used during the production process. Thus, the product is free of phytoestrogens.
Are the omega-3 fatty acids in triglyceride form?
Yes, the omega-3 algae oil is in triglyceride form!
Is the algae oil natural and GMO-free?
Yes, the algae oil contains 100% natural ingredients. It is produced without the use of GMO (genetically modified organisms).
How should the algae oil capsules be stored?
The algae oil capsules must always be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from light. If you want to extend the shelf life of the product, you can also store the capsules in the refrigerator at any time.
When is it best to take the algae oil?
We advise to take the algae oil shortly before/during or after a meal, because then the body's own fat burning is running and the omega-3 fatty acids of the algae oil can be perfectly absorbed.
Why does the algae oil taste slightly "fishy"?
The product smells "fishy" to most noses, but even the fish doesn't actually smell "fishy", it smells "like algae". These algae give the fish the "fishy" smell for us. This actually means that we should also say that the fish smells "like algae" and not "fishy". Since our algae oil is a natural product, there can always be natural variations in appearance, smell or taste. For example, some batches smell more like algae, some less. This is because we do not artificially process the smell of the algae.
What is high tocopherol extract and why is it included?
Our high tocopherol extract (vitamin E) is used as an antioxidant in our algae oil because it is susceptible to oxidation due to its high levels of unsaturated fatty acids. The extract, which contains high levels of tocopherol, provides optimal protection against the deterioration of the oil.
The exact vitamin E content may not be explicitly stated, as this is gradually depleted by its protective function. At the beginning of the production process, one capsule contains less vitamin E than one tablespoon of sunflower oil, margarine or wheat germ oil.
Should you wish to supplement your body with vitamin E, you would need to supplement vitamin E separately, as this is not possible through this product.
What is the bubble in the algae oil capsules?
The "air bubble" in the algae oil capsules is not air, but nitrogen. Since the capsule shell, which is made of vegetable cellulose, cannot be completely filled with the algae oil for technical reasons, an air bubble would form. Since this air bubble or oxygen would stimulate oxidation, i.e. spoilage of the oil, nitrogen is injected instead to displace the oxygen. To ensure the highest quality of oil, we have developed this elaborate, highly innovative production method.
